Horizontal cable system and anchor points
When working at height (more than 2.5 metres), fall protection is mandatory. An automatic fall arrest device is a simple but effective solution if a safe workplace cannot be created by means of fences or barriers. A fall arrest device consists of a sturdy housing containing a retractable strap or steel cable. The end of the strap is attached to the user's safety harness, the other part is secured to an anchor point. The operation of the device is similar to that of a car safety belt: during normal use, the strap or wire rope unrolls smoothly, but during sudden movements (such as a fall) it blocks immediately. In order to reduce the impact on the body, a fall arrestor is fitted with a brake system or a shock absorber. Usually, automatic fall arrestors are secured above the user's head. This minimises the fall distance. However, the devices can also be used horizontally and can be linked together to create a Y system. In addition to horizontal use, Ikar fall arrestors have also been tested on edges with a radius of 0.5mm.
