Bullebakbrug in Amsterdam

Inspection work carried out on four lifting installations

Work on the iconic Bullebak Bridge in Amsterdam!

Today, we conducted inspection work on behalf of BAM on four lifting installations located in the bridgeheads of the historic Bullebak Bridge. These installations play a crucial role in facilitating maintenance work on the underlying bridge systems.

A bit of history: The Bullebak, bridge 149, is no ordinary bridge. It is a double bascule bridge over the Brouwersgracht, which has been a vital link between Marnixstraat and Korte Marnixstraat since the early 17th century. The name "Bullebak" comes from a mysterious water ghost that, according to an old superstition, would dwell under the bridge, seeking out inattentive passersby. Over the centuries, this bridge has seen many changes, from the arrival of horse-drawn trams to electric tram lines. In 1995, the bridge was even designated as a municipal monument, and between 2020 and 2023, it was fully renovated, preserving its historical character. We are proud to contribute to the preservation and maintenance of this beautiful piece of Amsterdam history!
